So Soon?!

In the glorious annals of SCS history there can be no event more astonishing than a second rehearsal in less than two months! Perhaps inspired by the very lack of playing together over eighteen months, we arrived once more at Somerton Towers - Pete Ward's ancestral mansion - and proceeded to re-familiarise ourselves with a long list of numbers which our Glorious Leader feared we may have forgotten ... not so! ...

It was certainly an action-packed and hard-working rehearsal ... while Trevor enjoyed a snooze and dreamed of early access to the cheesecake, we managed to romp through Mike's 'To Do' list with hardly a hiccup, and a veritable hoard of past repertoire was soon unearthed - Sobbing Blues, African Fantasy, Sweet Like This, Egyptian Fantasy, The Chant, Georgia Swing, Smokehouse Blues, Apex Blues, The Mooche ... plus a handful of new numbers - Wang Wang Blues, Chalmette Sunset, and Duke Ellington's Saturday Night Function ...

While we debated the inclusion of a pleasing inverted ninth chord suggested by our Great Leader, John caught up with the latest salacious news from the Clevedon Esplanade Times ...

... and Keith, having arrived early and camped outside overnight, had a quick snooze, while Mike played Pokemon games on his iPad ... all in all, a very hard-working session, and it was soon time for lunch - supplied this time round by Pete's under-butler Soames, as Carruthers was out exercising the hounds ...

'Twas a record-breaking session, to be sure - one which may never be equalled ... and no doubt our faithful victims at The Ropemakers will have to endure the fruits of our labours next time we play down there!
