... or where? ... as we initially wondered when we spotted this one on the Gig List! Some of us thought that Langford Budville must be the name of a legendary Victorian actor, renowned for his roles as a classic villain, prowling around the stage twirling his moustache and being roundly hissed by the audience. Others feared that the village was so remote and hitherto unvisited by the Sunset Cafe Stompers that it may not appear even on Google Maps! It eventually transpired that it was indeed on the map, was accessible by road (although a rather narrow one!) and was the proud possessor of one of the finest village halls we had ever played in. Best of all, it was all in aid of a very worthy charity - Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance - and it was great to see such a good turn out from the village and surrounding area to support this splendid cause.
Not only did we spot some familiar faces (from Cotleigh Jazz) in the background, thus guaranteeing some fine ales from that excellent source, but the band (and of course the audience!) were provided in the interval with possibly the finest spread of a ploughman's supper ever experienced - a truly sumptuous spread, and greatly appreciated by eight starving jazzers!

Our audience - by no means all dyed-in-the-wool jazz fans - gave us a great reception and seemed to really enjoy our music, including several of the more obscure numbers in our eclectic repertoire, and (as always) Hamish Maxwell was a great hit with one and all ... not bad for someone we found - purely by chance - as he loitered on the streets of Bridport ...
To add to this ambitious fund-raising effort was a table overflowing with raffle prizes, so we very much hope that the Air Ambulance service will benefit by a tidy sum from the sterling efforts of the hard-working promoters of this excellent event! Hopefully, it may become something of a fixture on the village events calendar! Thanks so much to the organisers for the invitation ... and of course for the superb supper!
