Corfe Castle Church Concert

July 20, 2019

It's always a treat to return to such a picturesque location to play a concert, and the view over to the castle from St Edward's Church, combined with a very friendly reception in a fine acoustic, make our visits here a real pleasure, and it was indeed great to be back. As before, the organising team had assembled a splendid audience for us, and it was gratifying to spot so much toe-tapping and rhythmic swaying within the rows of normally dignified pews! Given such a supportive and enthusiastic audience, we thought we'd risk some items from the more obscure depths of our repertoire, numbers rarely played by other bands, such as classics from Morton's Red Hot Peppers, like Smokehouse Blues and The Chant, and Ellington's Cotton Club Stomp, as well as a couple of duets such as Shreeveport Stomp - a virtuoso outing for Trevor's clarinet plus piano, and - another duet - the rarely heard Cataract Rag with further displays of virtuosity from Steve and Mike.

Hamish was on form as always, and received his usual enthusiastic reception from the audience - especially the ladies! Appropriately enough, given current world events (and two world leaders in particular!), he chose to finish with Changes - the title track of our most recent CD : " Everyone is going through changes, No one knows what's going on - And everybody changes places - But the world still carries on .…

We always enjoy playing here, and can't wait to return! Thanks so much for the invitation, and special thanks for the superb interval refreshments, which we greatly enjoyed along with the magical view across to the castle!
