Peter Farley

The sad news is that our banjo player, Peter Farley died suddenly at the end of September.  We had been playing gigs with Pete on the two days before his death, and so his departure to the great band in the sky was a huge shock.

On the Saturday before he died, we played at a party in a Dorset garden.  The band played under an old oak tree and Pete leaned back in his chair, in the evening sun, banjo in hand (and a beer in the other) and said “life does not get much better than this”.

Pete was a great natural banjo player with a magnificent ear and fine sense of rhythm.  He was a great chap to have around and we shall miss him for all sorts of reasons.

The following newsletter went out just before the news of Pete’s death.

What’s Happening?                            October 2008

At last!

It’s been a long while since the last newsletter, but we’ve been waiting for confirmation of our new regular venue, see below.

New Regular Venue

We’re delighted to announce that from Monday 13th October we shall be appearing each month (2nd Monday) at the Winyards Gap Inn, Chedington.  The Inn is located on the A356, NOT in Chedington village.  Postcode: DT8 3HY phone 01935 891 244.

The Winyards Gap is a comfortable and well organised pub with well kept real ale and a good room for jazz.  They will be offering a special jazz night menu.

Admission is free (but there will be a collection if you want to get out again).  Sessions start at 8.15am and we hope to see you there this Autumn to get things off to a good start!

Band Hits Road
